And now here come’s one of those pages where I’m gonna be a little real for a minute or two…
I can see why Jak’s upset to an extent, but be that as it may…my sympathies still lie with Ray; no rhyme intended.
I can definitely see a few hypothetical situations where Ray’s lack of control over his power could be rather risky, and I’m sure a lot of mishaps have occurred with that outside of the comic. I mean there’s no denying its a problem, given that the other officers were injured and given that these are pyrotechnic powers he has…I can imagine it can get to volatile levels akin to the Phoenix from X-men. Then again, maybe I’m making a false equivalency there, but the point is quite clear. If the officers weren’t injured, I wouldn’t even be saying any of this. I dunno about you, but I’d be carrying a fire extinguisher 24/7 if I were around him…no offense to him. 🧯
With that said…destruction of property shouldn’t overshadow the fact that lives were technically saved, nor should it ever take priority over stopping villains (same applies vice versa; villains leaving property squeaky clean with zero damage shouldn’t overshadow the fact that they were doing evil/malicious stuff). Yes, the officers were injured because of Ray, but if he hadn’t been there those officers would have probably been killed by the Port Town Gang instead, or atleast one of them anyway; If they were willing to kill Ray, they’d definitely kill them…assuming they’re that ruthless; lol I’m not the writer so I cannot say for sure. Still, property can be replaced, people cannot; Ray made the right call IMO.
Off-topic case in point, John Spartan from “Demolition Man”; if he didn’t cause the destruction he did, he’d fail to save lives in time. This is where I think Jak needs to take out the stick out of his behind and step off* unless he at all intends to bother stopping crime better than Ray, rather than trying to stop him from doing so; Jak lost points my book for this, and so does another character later on. Hell, probably the entire Meva Province does…no offense to them. 😛
Honestly, while I do side with Ray regarding all that, he does need to gain control of his powers at some point…otherwise he could kill someone by accident, and that would be heartbreaking.
I really do like how this comic gets me thinking about it a little more deeply. Maybe you didn’t intend exactly for that but still, I like that it does. Keep it up! 🙂
*You gotta give me credit there; I still managed to keep things PG despite how salty it sounded. Heh…
PUT ME IN COACH
Jak, gotta watch how you talk to people.
